Don's Raku Art

Raku Eagle design
The eagle is a work which I completed for St. John's home for boys in Rockaway Beach, New York. It is composed of 24 Raku fired tiles and is approximately 24 x 36 inches. Raku is a traditional eastern glaze firing technique characteristic of the Japanese tea ceremony vessels. The process involves both oxidation and reduction which produces a beautiful black clay body and metallic or crackled glazes.
