Special Events
Greetings !

You’ve got to love these longer, sun-filled days as we move closer to the month of June and the start of meteorological summer! There are all kinds of activities to keep us hopping. From the ball games at the park, the fishing and boating at the lake, a round of golf at the links, to a backyard BBQ, they’re all good! In the midst of all the summer fun that awaits us, don’t forget to keep church as one of your top priorities. Admittedly things will slow down around the church as the summer progresses. But you can rest assured that Sunday in, and Sunday out, we’ll be here worshiping our Savior Jesus Christ. I hope you’ll make it a point to join the church in this lifelong endeavor. Coming up in June…

l. Annual Conference. The West Ohio Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church will assemble again on the shores of Lake Erie in the Chautauqua of Lakeside. Conference begins on Sunday, June 7th and runs to Thursday of that week.

.2. Education Kits.
Brenda Snyder, one of our Board Members at HUMC, is in charge of the task of putting together education kits that will accompany Pastor B to Annual Conference. She recently sent out an email informing us of what’s being requested. Below is a copy of that email with information about the kits and what to do. Our church has been asked, along with every United Methodist congregation in the West Ohio Conference, to assemble at least 10 school kits to be distributed to children in developing countries or regions devastated by war, famine, and natural disasters. In 2008, The United Methodist Church produced and shipped 70,088 of these kits. It costs approximately $15 to assemble (including the cloth carrying bag) and ship a school kit. This year, the West Ohio Conference has a goal of providing 10,000 school kits to be distributed through the United Methodist Midwest Distribution Center in Illinois. Each congregation has been asked to assemble 10 school kits but we would like to assemble at least 25 if not more. These kits will be due in to the church no later than Sunday, June 7, as Pastor Bryan will be leaving for Lakeside at the conclusion of church that day. Pastors and Church representatives will be laying these kits on the altar in Hoover Auditorium during the Love First Miracle Offering. Remember our food drive and what all of that food looked like lying on our altar? Imagine thousands of these school kits consecrated to Christ’s mission of bringing hope and salvation to children desperate for an opportunity to learn, grow, and become leaders in their communities or countries. School Kit Contents: 1 pair blunt scissors (rounded tip) 3 pads 8 ˝” x 11” ruled paper (spiral, 70-80 pages each) 1 -30 centimeter ruler (12’ with metric) 1 hand held pencil sharpener 6 unsharpened pencils with erasers 1 eraser, 2 ˝” 1 box of 24 Crayola crayons (only 24) Important Kit Assembly Information: All items included in kits must be NEW items. All kits are carefully planned to make them usable in the greatest number of situations. Since strict rules often govern product entry into international countries, it is important that kits contain only the requested items-nothing more. Do NOT include any personal notes, money or additional materials inside the kits. These things must be painstakingly removed and will delay the shipment. To each school kit handle, please attach an envelope marked “SHIPPING” containing at least $1 in cash. This donation enables the kits to be sent by the distribution center without delay to areas in need. We are purchasing the cloth bags this year from one of my vendors since we are running on such a short timeline. I can get bags at a wholesale cost of about $2 per bag. We will have a collection area set up for you to place the donated items at church. I am not sure exactly where yet, but I will get back to you all on this. If you would like to donate money towards the cost of the bags or shipping, please see me or you can place it in the offering but it MUST be marked SCHOOL KITS so that it can get to the appropriate place. Also, if you would like to just donate money towards the contents of the kits that is okay too and can be handled the same way. If anyone has any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to email me or call me at the number listed below. Brenda Snyder 937-592-4699

3. Administrative Board.
The HUMC AD BD will gather on Monday, June 8th, 6:00 PM at the church to handle regular matters. As a reminder, everyone is invited to attend the AD BD, but only Board members have a vote on matters.

4. Vacation Bible School!
As in the past couple of years, we at HUMC conduct a little different VBS. This year’s theme, The Armor of God, will be conducted on a Sunday to Sunday basis. What that means is, you can bring your children with you to church on Sunday and for the hour of worship they will be participating in the VBS in Anstine Hall while the church service is going on in the sanctuary. VBS begins on Sunday, June 7th. Please feel free to bring as many children as possible. VBS is open for our youth from ages 4 through 3rd grade.

5. No SPPRC in June!

6. Trustees
Trustees will meet on Thursday, June 25th 6:00 PM at the church.

7. Thanks to everyone who contributed to our God and Country Service! Take heart in knowing that you served our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Our Mission:
Moving people closer to God.

Our Core Principles:
Becoming spiritually healthy through worship, devotion and service to God.

Our Core Belief:

The local church of Jesus Christ is the hope of the world.

Our Core Values

1. Worshiping together is an essential catalyst for spiritual transformation in the church, and for the individual. Acts 2:42-47.

2. We believe that spiritual growth accelerates through participation in small group ministries, and through personal, life-long devotion to God. Luke 6:12-16, and Ephesians 4:17-5:2.

3. Lost people who are far from God matter to God. Therefore, they should matter to the church. Matthew 18:10-14.

4. The church should be culturally relevant, yet Biblically sound. I Corinthians 9:19-23.

5. We fully accept that God's grace is our salvation, and there is nothing we can do to earn it. Rather, we can only accept it, and then give it away as Christ has given to us. Ephesians 2:1-10.

6. Christ followers in the church should strive to be faithful stewards of their resources and gifts to the church. I Corinthians 12, and I Timothy 6:17-19.

7. Giving our best for God honors God, and inspires others. Colossians 3:15-17.

8. We believe in loving, healthy relationships throughout the church that honors God. I Corinthians 13.

9. The church should be led by those with the spiritual gifts for leadership. Romans 12:1-8.

10. Children and youth are part of the church now, and not just the church of the future. Matthew 19:13-15.

11. We give ourselves permission to be misunderstood. Matthew 5:1-12.
