Special Events
Greetings !

And just like that, we entered the month of March.the promise of spring. It doesn't look like it as I put together this little note. But rest assured spring is going to happen! You can also rest assured that we have plenty of great things going on here at the church in the month of March. Here's hoping you'll be part of what's going on!

l. Work Day!
We're having a work day on Saturday, March 6th, from 8:00 to 12:00. Our main objective is to finish the folding walls in Anstine Hall. Apart from that, there are a just a few minor details that we'll look into. If you're interested in showing up and helping, please do so.

2. Ohio Northern University's "Sun's Rays":
We have a singing group from ONU joining us on Sunday, March 14th during morning worship service. They'll do a wide variety of songs and, having seen them at ONU, I know they're great! Following the service we'll be hosting a pot-luck carry in for the students so they can be reminded of what real food tastes like. So please join us for the service and lunch. Bring along a favorite hot dish and dessert and be prepared to have great fun and fellowship.

3. Membership Induction Service :
On Sunday, March 21st we're inducting our 2010 HUMC Membership class. We have 8 persons joining the church: Don Antram and his daughter, Alyssa; Nathan and Rita Thatcher; Matt and Ashtyn Jackson, and Don and Karla Stevens. Welcome aboard!

4. Tons of Love Food Drive!
Who can forget the excitement and enjoyment of last year's food drive? Our goal was 4 tons. We fell short by just a few hundred pounds. Needless to say, I really want to see us get past that 4 ton mark this year. So, here's our plan of attack: We're going to donate non-perishable food items through the 6 weeks of Lent. Upon making your offering, please bring the food items to the church and place them at the altar. Following our Palm Sunday service, we'll pass on all the food to the United Christian Services Food Pantry, located in Lakeview. Let's all do our part this year!

5. Daylight Savings Time!
Don't forget that we spring ahead on Sunday, March 14th. I would hate to see anyone miss church and the ONU singers because they forgot to set their time pieces ahead one hour.

6. Other Stuff.
Administrative Board: Monday, March 8th, 6:00 PM @ the church.
Daily Bread: Tuesday, March 23rd, 4:30 PM @ the Eagles Annex, north side of Indian Lake.
Trustees: Thursday, March 25th, 6:00 PM @ the church.
Staff Pastor Parish Relations: Monday, March 29th, 6:00 PM @ the church.

7. Holy Week and Easter in April!
Just a heads up that Easter is the first Sunday of April this year, 4/4/10. I thought it would be helpful to alert everyone to our Holy Week Schedule now. Maundy Thursday Service: Thursday, April 1st @ the church. Time TBA. We will once again partake in the Seder Meal. Good Friday: From 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM, Pastor B will be in the sanctuary offering communion and prayer to anyone who can attend. There is no set time for this. Rather, if you would like to receive the elements, please feel free to come at any time during the hour. Furthermore, since it is Good Friday, the day we remember Christ's crucifixion, I want to challenge you to fast through your lunch, pending your health is capable.

Easter Sunrise Breakfast: Beginning at 9:30 AM, The HUMC will be hosting a hot breakfast with all the fixings! It's free and should be a great prelude the worship service at 11:00. One of our adult small groups, in conjunction with the Burnt Bagel staff, will once again volunteer their time and effort to serve the breakfast. Thanks to everyone who makes this breakfast possible!

8. REVEAL Spiritual Survey:
If you remember, we at The HUMC signed on to be part of a 3 year study to measure the spiritual growth of the people in the church, and how the church, staff/pastor and programming helps or hinders you in your journey. We're getting ready to take our second round of on-line surveys starting in April. If you have access to a computer and can get online, you can take this survey. You'll need to give yourself at least 30 minutes as it will do a lot of probing. But the results from last year's survey proves that this is some of the best time you can give to God and the church. With that said, be looking for more details starting on Sunda morning. Peace to all, PBM

Our Mission:
Moving people closer to God.

Our Core Principles:
Becoming spiritually healthy through worship, devotion and service to God.

Our Core Belief:

The local church of Jesus Christ is the hope of the world.

Our Core Values

1. Worshiping together is an essential catalyst for spiritual transformation in the church, and for the individual. Acts 2:42-47.

2. We believe that spiritual growth accelerates through participation in small group ministries, and through personal, life-long devotion to God. Luke 6:12-16, and Ephesians 4:17-5:2.

3. Lost people who are far from God matter to God. Therefore, they should matter to the church. Matthew 18:10-14.

4. The church should be culturally relevant, yet Biblically sound. I Corinthians 9:19-23.

5. We fully accept that God's grace is our salvation, and there is nothing we can do to earn it. Rather, we can only accept it, and then give it away as Christ has given to us. Ephesians 2:1-10.

6. Christ followers in the church should strive to be faithful stewards of their resources and gifts to the church. I Corinthians 12, and I Timothy 6:17-19.

7. Giving our best for God honors God, and inspires others. Colossians 3:15-17.

8. We believe in loving, healthy relationships throughout the church that honors God. I Corinthians 13.

9. The church should be led by those with the spiritual gifts for leadership. Romans 12:1-8.

10. Children and youth are part of the church now, and not just the church of the future. Matthew 19:13-15.

11. We give ourselves permission to be misunderstood. Matthew 5:1-12.
