    AN INTERESTING YEAR!
So many things have happened within our Aerie this past year, and I'm sure that a lot of our members are not aware of the changes. It has been another tough year but we have made it through. Did you know that 65 Aeries in the state of Ohio had to close because of what the State has done? The smoking ban! The "Tic Tac Fruit" issue! But we are still open. The "trustees" of our Aerie have had to make many unpopular decisions, but our doors are still open, we are still growing, and we are still "flying high!"
At National Convention last year, the Grand Aerie made yet another interesting change to the by-laws of our organization. Maybe unknown to some members, two years ago at the National Convention, women were given the right to apply for membership into the "AERIE" (Men's Organization). Of course they had to resign from the Auxiliary and then submit an application to the Aerie. This past year at the convention, another by-law was passed. Now if you resign from the Auxiliary to join the Aerie, you have to wait ONE YEAR before you are allowed to re-apply for membership. I thought that was interesting. You know that when women were given the right to vote in our country, they didn't have to give up their citizenship for a year! I think it was the 17th amendment that addressed the situation. It's just something to think about!
Although the issue of having women join the Aerie is not well accepted in a lot of the Aeries, including OURS, it is something that has to be accepted. Change is inevitable.
We now have five ladies that have joined the Aerie, and one of the ladies was elected, last year, as "interim" Vice President, due to a vacancy that occurred. She will hold the office until this month, at which time the elections are held. And Yes! I'm going to seek RE-ELECTION!
Speaking of election time…..it is upon us again. In fact, when you receive this newsletter, it will be a matter of a week or two before election days. At this point in time I have a partial list of who is running for the offices because, as usual, not very many people have come forward. But…..MARK YOUR CALENDAR…..and VOTE on Election Day.
Election Day for the Ladies' Auxiliary is May 6th. This year the procedure for voting has been changed. Ladies! Instead of having to vote at the meeting, you will now be able to vote anytime during the day. The polls will open at 12am. and will close at 6pm. So there is no excuse for you not to get out and vote. YOUR vote can make a difference!
I do know that at this point in printing, you have two people running for President: Tammy Beigel and Barb Shahan. And you have Susie Kline and Linda Kramer running for Treasurer. Ladies! Get out and VOTE! You have all day to do it. If you're not happy with the way things are going……VOTE for change.
For the Aerie, Election Day is May 13th. The polls will open at 10am. And close at 7pm. At this point in time, Harold Beigel is running for RE-ELECTION as President, Susie Layman is running for RE-ELECTION! as Vice President, Kenny Hatmaker is running for 3 year Trustee, Dale Barnes is running for Conductor, Bob Howard and Brad Fogle, are both running for RE-ELECTION for the 1 year Trustee positions, and "Mikey" is seeking re-election as inside guard. The only offices without a candidate are Treasurer and Chaplin. But by the time the newsletter is out it will be too late. Tomorrow night's Aerie meeting is the "nomination" meeting. So….Let the cards fall!
If you're satisfied with the direction the club has been moving in, VOTE so the Aerie can continue to move ahead. If you're NOT satisfied with the direction your Aerie has been moving in, VOTE so your voice can be heard.

GET INVOLVED IN WHAT'S HAPPENING IN YOUR ORGANIZATION!
CARRY YOUR MEMBERSHIP CARD WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES!
    President's Word!

Another year has come and gone, and as I near the end of my term, I would like to say it has been my pleasure serving you. I would like to thank my fellow officers, the Board of Trustees, and the Secretary, Garry Layman, for their co-operation in making this year a successful one. I would also like to say "thanks" to PWP Roger Monroe for all his "behind the scenes" help.
The Anniversary Celebration was a big success. Congratulations to Ted Klein on his selection to the Hall of Fame. Thank you to Tammy Beigel and PWP Jim Hoberty for helping with the door prizes and the lottery drawing.
On April 5th, the pool tournament was held. Congratulations to all the winners. Thank you to Rick Louden and Johnny Cupps for putting it together, and thanks to Teresa, Tammy, Cindy, and Ashley for all their time in helping with scoring and raffling off of prizes.
May 13th will be the election of Aerie officers. Please come out and exercise your right to vote.
Again, thank you all for helping to make this year the success that it was and please come in and help sup-
port your club in the coming year.
    Fraternally,
    Harold Beigel
    Worthy President

    Secretaries's Desk!

Just a quick reminder, that if you HAVEN'T PAID your dues for 2008-2009, you are now delinquent and are no longer permitted in the Aerie, without your 2008-2009 card. New key cards have been issued and the old blue ones are no longer good. This year the cards are gray and red. We do allow a short "grace" period and you are allowed to come in and take care of it, but DO IT NOW!
I would like to thank EVERYONE who participated in donating their dollars to the purchasing of our new bar stools. Susie and I really appreciate you folks for your support. You were all so generous! We know that a lot of freezers are well stocked going into the summer! It is because of "ALL OF YOU," the membership, that the project was a success. YOU PAID FOR THE STOOLS FOR YOUR CLUB! The stools have been ordered and we are looking at a 4-6 week delivery.
I would like to let the membership know that ALL the boards that Susie and I sold came from the Down-town Discount Grocery, in Lakeview. ALL proceeds went to the purchasing of the bar stools.
I would also like to thank the PWP Organization (Past Worthy Presidents) that also donated $500 towards the project.
As projects arise in the future, it is good to know that the membership will help and stand behind what needs to be done.
    Fraternally yours,
    Garry Layman Worthy Secretary

    Auxiliary Corner!
It is spring and I have seen a lot of our "snowbirds" that have come back home. "Congrats" go out to Patty Penny for the Hall of Fame Award. A lot of you don't know her or even realize what she has done for the club. Patty is one of those members who is always there when you need someone to "pitch in." She has helped out with the Thursday Night Ladies' Drawing. Patty and her sister have donated Victoria Secret baskets that were "tipped off" for the Auxiliary, to help with the Hospice Golf Tournament. Patty also helped with the purchasing of the kitchen's freezer. So…..Congratulation Patty!
We have the Auxiliary Election on May 6th, so ladies come on out and vote. We can use you help. Fraternally,
    Barbara Shahan, Madam President

    Editor's Note!
They have been after me to take the newsletter back for quite a while, and I just couldn't make the decision to do it. So I kind of played with the idea and kept doing newsletters at home on my computer and with each one I did, I became more and more interested. So……if you're reading this, then I made the decision to take it back. If you're not reading this, then you won't know anything about it, will you! Well! Guess what? You ARE reading it and……I'm back! I'll do my best to not let you down! Until next month…….! Susie Layman / Editor

    TRIVIA QUESTION!
Well! You all know that we can't forget the trivia question, can we? How about a question about "Cracker Jacks!" Remember that favorite ballpark snack that had a prize in every box?
Cracker Jacks began its tasty legend in 1871. Can you imagine that? Over a hundred years ago! A Ger-man immigrant by the name of Frederick William Ruechheim, started selling popcorn to construction workers in Chicago after the Chicago fire. Then, with the help of his brother "Fred," they started experimenting with the popcorn and came up with the idea of adding a molasses mixture to it. They took it to the World's Fair in Chicago and….the rest is history. My trivia question is: There was a picture of Sailor Jack on the box and his dog. What was the dog's name?
