Every Island cabinet begins with a foundation of solid kiln-dried oak rails, mortised-and-tenoned and glued for a frame that's built to last. Then 1/2" plywood back and side panels are fastened with tongue-and-groove. The storage Island has a full corner backing for reinforcement.

A 14" drop down leaf is hinged with full piano hinge for stability and easy cleaning.

The island has solid wood corner blocks and a solid wood toe board.

Inside the Island cabinet are three pull out drawers including one with a wine glass holder on the under side. The wine glass rack holds 12 glasses. Above the doors is a 30" center drawer with decorative face. The entire unit conveniently rolls up to kitchen counters for additional work space.

The lower shelf holds the monitor. It is adjustable to position the monitor at a comfortable height for the user. The shelf holding the key board & mouse slides in and out. The center section of the desk is made of Formica. It opens back and can be used for notes and a calendar. The cords feed down through the back of the desk. The printer paper tray is in easy reach of the user. The tower is handy for operating CD or DVD drives.

The Island Cabinet idea came about as a challenge by a neighbor who needed more work space in her kitchen. The Island was so successful as space saving storage in the kitchen that ideas for other places to use an island popped up. In talking with people at Indian Lake, Most agreed that storage space and work space is often a problem in many of the homes, cottages, apartments, and condominiums.

The computer desk design was recommended by the indianlake.com webmaster. Sometimes spending as much as 6 hours a day in front of the computer, neck aches and backaches became a problem. This desk design in combination with leaving the computer to take a muscle stretching break every hour relieved these problems. The desk has been used for two years and is preferred over desks with monitors at eye level.
